Our speech and language therapists at SLT for Kids are able to provide specialist voice services for young people and adolescents in education settings after the age of 16, such as colleges and sixth form. We can offer assessments, treatment and reviews. Our treatment will be tailored to individual goals but may include accent and confidence training, interview skills and presentation skills.

Our treatment can benefit any young person looking to improve their communication or voice skills during interviews for jobs or universities. All of our therapy is tailored to each individual based on their goals, we offer advice and education on voice for interviews from a specialist speech and language therapist expertise.

Post 16

We provide services to early years settings. Your early year foundation stage setting will be provided with an enthusiastic speech and language therapist that is able to dedicate part of their time to improving speech, language and communication outcomes for the EYFS.

Voice services we offer for post 16 education settings

At SLT for Kids we can offer assessment, treatment, reviews, advice and education to young people who feel they would benefit from voice intervention for interviews and presentations. All of our services are tailored to the individual's goals and are delivered by a specialist speech and language therapist. Our services are flexible and can take place in the clinic, home or education setting as well as online, over Skype.

Our speech and language therapists will initially assess the individual, this will be to identify their voice skills and determine their goals. We will then set a treatment option based on the outcome of assessment working towards your goals. Services we provide include:

Accent training

Our speech and language therapists can provide accent training to young people in post 16 education settings who feel they would benefit from accent reduction or modification in order to succeed in interviews or presentations. We can help make your accent more neutral or more ‘British’ in order for you to achieve the accent you wish to be heard. Our specialist speech and language therapist will be able to use pitch, intonation and volume exercises and strategies in order for you to modify your accent in certain situations.

Confidence training

We are able to offer confidence training for young people in the post 16 education setting to help increase their confidence and self-esteem when using their voice. Our confidence training will involve a mixture of exercises to help them achieve stronger voice use and more assertive use of body language. In depth discussions with our specialist speech and language therapist in terms of your goals and needs will also help young people gain confidence when using their voice for interviews or presentations.

Presentation skills

Presentation skills therapy can help young people in the post 16 education setting with presentations or interviews to increase their confidence and chance of success. The therapy will be delivered by our specialist voice speech and language therapist and will provide techniques and strategies to improve voice use when presenting to others and improve their chances of success within the education setting.

Interview skills

Our interview skills therapy will work on aspects of the voice use such as volume, pitch and intonation. Our speech and language therapists can also work on aspects of communication such as body language and non-verbal communication. This can help a young person develop their interview skills and increase confidence when talking to prospective employers.

Advice and education

Our speech and language therapists are able to educate any child, parent or teacher in any aspects of healthy voice use. We can provide advice on vocal hygiene techniques and training on how to look after your voice.
