Saliha Matarwala Speech & Language Therapist

Saliha is a paediatric speech and language therapist. She graduated from Birmingham City University with a degree in Speech and Language Therapy. Since joining SLT for Kids Saliha has provided both individual therapy sessions and sessions within mainstream and special educational settings. Saliha has a natural rapport with children and values the time she spends with them.

Saliha enjoys working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and works closely with SENCo’s educational psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and educational staff. She feels communication between professionals and the family is vital to providing a successful and effective therapeutic experience.

Saliha likes to take a holistic approach when providing speech and language therapy, considering both the difficulties the child is experiencing and the impact theses difficulties have on their education, daily living, social interaction, relationships, family and confidence. Saliha understands the importance of providing bespoke individual therapy programmes for children with speech, language and communication needs. She tries to use resources that are of the child’s interest and makes therapy as fun and enjoyable as possible.

Saliha recognises the usefulness and value of supporting parents and helping them to understand their child’s difficulties and provide them with advice on how best to support their children’s development. She places great importance on educating others on understanding, recognising and supporting speech, language and communication needs.

When in schools Saliha takes a whole school approach to speech and language therapy by providing one to one therapy as well as educating staff and adjusting the environment to better suit the needs of children with speech, language and communication needs. This way the child is supported throughout their school day.
